Meet the Chelsea Management Group team:
HERBERT HEFLICH, Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Heflich has developed expertise in all aspects of eldercare management during his over 42 year career as a nursing home owner-administrator and an assisted living residence developer and manager. He was Vice President of Mega Care, Inc., a multi-institutional healthcare organization, where he was directly responsible for management and coordination of long term care. As a former executive director and owner of Greenbrook Manor Nursing Home, he gained the reputation as a leader in the field of nursing home administration. Mr. Heflich was the founder of the New Jersey Postacute Network (NJPAN) and a principal in several nursing homes with subacute units throughout New Jersey. He served as President of the New Jersey Assisted Living Association (NJALA). He is a former board member of the Alzheimer's Association of New Jersey. Mr. Heflich received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College.
ROGER BERNIER, President and Chief Operations Officer, previously served as an Assisted Living Residence Executive Director for the company. Mr. Bernier is responsible for overseeing the operations management of the company's assisted living residences. A Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, he has served as a consultant for various assisted living operations. Before joining Chelsea, he was the Director of Quality Improvement and the Director of Food and Nutrition Services at Inglemoor Care Center of Livingston in New Jersey. Mr. Bernier has fifteen years of long term care directorship experience. He sits on the boards of the National Center for Assisted Living and the Health Care Association of New Jersey, and chairs various industry committees on the state and national levels. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Johnson & Wales University and his MBA from Monmouth College.
DEENA SCHAFFER, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Schaffer is responsible for overall management of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and planning, systems management and internal control. Ms. Schaffer's professional career encompasses nearly 30 years of experience in senior housing and healthcare, with her previous employment including Continental Health Affiliates where she was Director of Finance of their long term care division, and Touche Ross & Co., where she was a Senior Manager specializing in healthcare. Ms. Schaffer earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Brooklyn College and is a certified public accountant.
EDIE GERELLI, Senior Vice President of Operations. Ms. Gerelli is responsible for oversight and support of our communities, working closely with the executive directors, administrative team members and regional support of the designated communities to ensure high quality service delivery, excellent customer service and solid financial performance. Ms. Gerelli came to Chelsea in 2007 from Sunrise Senior Living, where she spent nine years in various positions, most recently as the Area Manager of Operations for 14 buildings in New Jersey. She currently sits on the Board of Directors of the National Center of Assisted Living (NCAL) and is involved in several committees with the Health Care Association of New Jersey. Ms. Gerelli received her Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health, with a focus on Gerontology and Nutrition, from William Paterson University.
JULIE BIBLOWITZ, Vice President of Marketing. Ms. Biblowitz organizes the marketing programs for each of the locations and supervises their marketing and community relations staff. Before joining Chelsea she served as Regional Director of Marketing for Castle Senior Living. Previous to that she was Director of Marketing at the Esplanade, the first assisted living facility in New York City. Ms. Biblowitz received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Hartford.
BARBARA BOHNEMANN, Vice President of Human Resources. Formerly, the Vice President of Human Resources at Royal Doulton USA Inc, Ms. Bohnemann brings over 20 years experience in all aspects of human resources including health and welfare, retirement planning, labor relations, training, recruitment and organizational development. Ms. Bohnemann received a BA and MS from Hunter College, New York.
LORETTA KAES, Vice President of Health Services, is a Registered Nurse with over twenty years experience in long term care and assisted living. Ms. Kaes' experience includes leadership positions in nursing and administration as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and Certified Assisted Living Administrator. Ms. Kaes oversees the clinical operation of the company's assisted living residences, including quality improvement initiatives and oversight of clinical staff at each of our facilities. Before joining Chelsea, Ms. Kaes was an Administrator at Genesis Healthcare System. She has received the New Jersey Society on Aging's Gerontologist of the Year Award and ALFA's Best of the Best Award for her development of the Top Gun Nurse Training Program. Ms. Kaes holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Jersey State University and is board certified as an Assisted Living Nurse by the American Assisted Living Association (AALNA) and is board certified in Gerontological Nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
MICHAEL LEVINE, Regional Director of Operations, oversees the day-to-day operations of the company's New York facilities. Prior to joining Chelsea, Mr. Levine worked at Sunrise Senior Living as an Area Sales Manager where he supervised eleven facilities in New Jersey. Before Sunrise, Mr. Levine was at Marriott Hotels where, after traveling to various communities to reconstruct troubled banquet departments, he was promoted to Regional Director of Sales and Catering. Mr. Levine holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Business and Social Work from The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
CAROLE PROCE, Regional Director of Health Services, is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of experience in long term care with 12 years in assisted living. Ms. Proce’s experience includes administrative positions in long term care facilities as well as regional positions in assisted living. Ms. Proce’s responsibilities include oversight of the Wellness Departments in the Chelsea NY communities. Ms. Proce received her MS in Health Care Policy and Management from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Certificate in Teaching Clinical Nursing from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Generalist Certification Lawyers Assistant Program from Adelphi University in NY and is an American Red Cross Certified First Aide/CPR/AED Instructor.
