Resilience in Shrewsbury

Marlene fractured her right, dominant arm on May 2nd after falling in the dining room. She was unable to complete her daily activities, ambulate with a walker and participate in her meaningful activities as she once did independently prior to falling. With OT, Marlene was able to learn how to modify her activities using her non-dominant arm.
Marlene was motivated to get back her independence and use her right arm again. With each session she demonstrated more and more improvements, and now is able to reach for books in the library, put on a shirt independently and weight bear on a walker to walk to and from the dining hall again.
Marlene worked with Nicole Sociedade, FOX OT, and Nicole Shea, Level II OT student from Monmouth University. Shea is in the process of obtaining her doctorate in occupational therapy.
Shea and Marlene developed a strong therapeutic relationship and were able to both learn and grow together. A true success story! Marlene says, “I couldn’t have done it without Nicole 1 and 2!”
