Once A Powers Model, Eileen Grubb Still Takes A Good Photo
(Rockville Centre, NY) — Posing for marketing photos is an activity many Chelsea Senior Living residents enjoy from time to time. But Eileen Grubb, a resident of Maple Pointe Assisted Living, a Chelsea community in Rockville Centre, Long Island, seemed especially good at it.
“Well, I was a Powers model,” she revealed during a photo shoot, which may explain why she was very at ease as the flash went off and her smile never wavered.
She was referring to the John Robert Powers school and agency, founded in 1923 and which represented some big stars including Diana Ross and Grace Kelly. However, Eileen’s star was not destined to rise that high–her work was for catalogs and only lasted for a year. She did work once with Tippi Hedren, best known for her starring role in the Hitchcock film, The Birds. She remembers posing with her and several others next to a car.
“My father didn’t want me to do it,” she says. “He wanted me to go to college.”
She didn’t do that either, instead meeting her future husband, Bill, at the 1940 World’s Fair. They were married for 27 years until he died in 1971.
Today, Eileen enjoys her independence and beautiful apartment at Maple Pointe. She has 9 children, 26 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
