How Arts and Crafts is Beneficial for Seniors

Arts and crafts is one of the activities offered at all Chelsea Senior Living communities at least once a month. We call our signature program Young at Art. It creates a variety of different artistries with art and crafting classes. Our Lifestyle Directors plan activities which benefit seniors by giving them a purpose, getting their day off to a good start and creating opportunities to socialize. Most residents love to participate in crafting.

The classes that are offered range from painting to creating mini sailboats, art workshops coupled with wine tasting and tie-dying, just to name a few. All of the communities choose to do their programs differently so some may do a paint and sip while others may choose to do an activity with popsicle sticks or colored paper.

By having these classes at our communities, the residents get to dig into their creative sides that maybe they never knew they had. They get a chance to interact with the other residents, which supports personal growth. Arts and crafts also exercises the brain by helping with hand-eye coordination, concentration and boosting cognitive abilities. All of these factors help make our residents feel young at heart!
