It’s summertime and that means it’s time to be outside. There are many fun activities that seniors can participate in safely during the summer months. Below is a list of 10 examples.
-
- Gardening
Gardening is a good way to get outside even if it’s just for half an hour. You’ll get to plant some of your favorite flowers or veggies and watch them bloom before your eyes.
-
- Go for a walk in a park
Walking has many different benefits. You’ll get to be outside and enjoy nature while getting important exercise.
-
- Drive to the beach
Who doesn’t love the beach and hear the waves crash against the shore? Just make sure to put sunscreen on or sit in the shade. Swim in the ocean and hang with family and friends.
-
- Play Golf
Golfing is a great form of exercise but again, don’t forget the sunscreen.
-
- Go to the Zoo or Aquarium
Going to the zoo/aquarium is another great activity to do in the summer. You’ll get to get some exercise while walking to each encounter. Go with your grandkids and enjoy your day.
-
- Go fishing
Relaxing and rewarding, fishing is a great pass time, but do it safely.
-
- Attend a sporting event
Take yourself to the ball game this summer. Cheer on your favorite team or player.
-
- Have a picnic outside
Pack your lunch. Gather your family and friends and head out to a local park and have some fun.
-
- Go to the farmer’s market
Pick fresh veggies to grill and some nice smelling flowers to plant outside your house.
-
- Go to see a show
Seeing a show is a fun activity to do when it is too hot to be outdoors. If Broadway is too pricey, there are plenty of local and regional theaters, community playhouses and comedy clubs. Or, just go to a movie. It’s air conditioned!
